Father and daughter fishing in Miami
Father and daughter fishing in Miami. The barracuda is not a fish that is commonly sold in fish markets due to the fear of Ciguatera poisoning. Large Barracudas very often have Ciguatera poisoning. It is a large amount of mercury inside the fish from the fish eating corral and coral beds. When eaten by humans, fish with Ciguatera can be very bad to even fatal. Large amounts of Barracudas are in Florida and almost all commercial fishermen eat them. I tried it and it was incredible! However, this is a resource that is commonly overlooked in a very healthy economy like in Florida. In poor countries this would not be a concern.
